YOU CAN NOT ANSWER QUESTIONS IN SPACE BETWEEN QUESTIONS

Calculation section (NOT actually Question section)

1. For every reaction, you will going to write a balance complete chemical reaction including phases. Then showing all appropriate work (i.e. show line of species separate into their ions including coefficients and species that do not change). Then cancel out spectator ions and write the net ionic reaction. Hint: In some cases, nothing cancels out and/or separate out.

2. Except for the 2 double replacement reactions, all other reaction take the complete chemical reaction above and find oxidation of all species and then determine (also show all appropriate work): a) what is oxidized, b) what is reduced, c) what is oxidizing agent, d) what is reducing agent, e) balance the reaction and e) indicate how many electrons are moving.

3. For the single replacement reaction with zinc and copper (II) sulfate, determine the most positive ξcell, the associated half cells and overall Redox reaction, show the Electrochemical cell with all appropriate information (see how assignments for guidance).

Questions Section for this Lab

1. For copper metal, what is the issue in order to correctly determine the synthesis reaction product.

2. In the Decomposition reaction section, to predict what the products of these types of chemical reaction, what are the two general name (or name of types of compounds) of compounds that are products (may product more than 2 different products but usually only two different types of cpds). It is assumed that the reactant in Decomposition reaction has an oxygen atom somewhere in the chemical formula (not always case so the products would be different).

3. For the single replacement reaction, when you added the zinc to the Hydrochloric acid, what observation did you make. What chemical reaction caused this observation to occur?

4. When adding zinc to the copper (II) sulfate (or it could have been chloride) solution, you observed a reaction occur. If I added a large amount of zinc into the solution, what would happen to the appearance of the solution that may not have happened with the small amount of zinc you added?

5. Give me another 2 solutions you can add together to form a precipitate. Then give the net ionic reaction for that reaction.
