Answers to 2023-2024 Honors Kinetics, Potential Energy Diagram, Stoichiometry and Naming Compound Homework.

Part I

1) N7Cl4
2) Iron (II) nitride
3) Nitrate, NO31-, H1NO3
4) Dinitrogen pentaoxide
5) Pb2+, SO42-, Pb1(SO4)1
6) CO32-, carbonate, H2CO3
7) Aluminum acetate
8) Cu2+, PO33-, Cu3(PO3)2

Part II

1) 35.4g Al2O3

2) 43.5g C6H12O6

Part III

1a) Reaction Rate - How fast does the reaction go (how fast make products or reduce reactants).

1b) Reaction Mechanism - How do reactant particle collide or combine to get products (is it a one or multiple step reaction)

2) Does the reaction occur or not. As you remember, Thermodynamics determines that question (Gibbs Free Energy differences).

3) Collision Theory

4a) Effective Collision (EC)

4b) Reactant particles must have the Activation Energy or greater AND near each other & right spatial (3-D) orientation.

5a) Increasing the temperature means that some energy is added equally to each reactant particles. So some reactant particles that did not have the activation energy or greater do have the energy now. So there are more Effective Collision (EC) increasing the rate of product made called increasing rate of reaction.

6a) As more reactant particles are near each other (not changing Kinetic Energy profile of the reactant particles just more particles per KE now),there will be more reactant particles with the activation energy or greater causing more Effective Collisions (EC) increase the rate of products are made (#products/time) called increase Rate of Reaction.

6b) Can change how many reactant particles are near each by anyone of the following:
i) Increase concentration of reactants
ii) Increasing surface area
iii) Stirring
iv) Increase pressure of gas reactant (at constant volume)
v) Decrease volume of gas phase reactants

7) Will discuss in class.

8) Two or maximum of three reactant particle can make Effective Collision over a normal period of time.

8) Changes the activation Energy thereby rate of reaction without being consumed in the reaction.

9) In a multiple step chemical reaction, the substance that is made in one reactant substep and then consumed in a subsequent reactant substep thereby the substance is not in the overall chemical reaction.

10a) NO
10b) NO2
10c) 2023-2024 Students do not have to do this part
