Bunsen Burner Safety and Lighting
Supplies Needed
Safety Goggles
Burner with safe hose (check for cracks)
Striker or matches
Step 1
Put on Goggles
Step 2
Plug in hose on both ends
Step 3
Open both air/gas valves on burner about three quarters open
Step 4
Open the main gas valve about 1/3 to halfway
Step 5
Immediately put the striker/match near the tip of the burner, allow to light
Step 6
If it does not light after 3 strikes/ /Immediately? turn off the gas/ /Wait? 10 seconds/ /Then? waft away gas and repeat step 4
Step 7
Nozzle adjust to have 2 cones of flame, the inner a blue shade, and no yellow flame. Proper Height is not too high (about a little more than 5 cm)
Gas valve will slow the flame = lower flame
Oxygen valve will change heat of flame (more open = more oxygen = hotter flame)
