Making an Acid

1. Obtain a plastic cup and fill approximately 1/2 full of DI water.

2. Using your pH probe, record the pH of the DI water.

3. Get a straw and start blowing bubbles in the water. Please keep some of the water in the beaker!!!.

4. After 5min or so, record the pH of the solution again.



Making a Base

1. Obtain a plastic cup and fill approximately 1/2 full of DI water. (or dispose of solution from Part 1, rinse out and use same cup)

2. Using your pH probe, record the pH of the DI water.

3. Add approximately 1/2 teaspoon of solid calcium oxide. Stir

4. After stirring for a few minute to dissolve as much of the solid as possible, record the pH.
