Questions For Molar Volume Of A Gas Lab

1. Explain in an outline form (showing general equation(s)), the actual mathematical steps you did to determine the molar volume of the gas. Assume that the reader has your level of chemistry knowledge.

2. This experiment is a classic lab in collecting gas under water. Another way of collecting gas is inside a balloon. When collect inside a balloon, the gas is called "dry". When you collect gas under water, it is not called "dry" (sometimes called "wet"). Why?

3. Why was it important to take the eudiometer and put in a water container where you could adjust how much of the eudiometer was submersed in the liquid. (hint: what variable(s) are you concerned with in the step).

4. If some of the magnesium you weighted did not react (usually staying at the top of the liquid level), how will this affect your experimental molar volume of a gas? Explain.

5. If when you put the eudiometer into the water container (before the Mg reaction started), how would that affect the experimental molar volume of a gas.
