The 1st Redox lab will be: [http://www.tmcleod.org/Level1/Chem328Redox/201415UpdatedIronwithcopperIIsulfatelab.doc Iron reacting with Copper (II) sulfate Lab] *Pre-lab **You will complete the following questions in your lab and show the correct answer before proceeding to do the above lab. **The following will link to information (mostly 1st year info) to review: **[http://tmcleod.org/cgi-bin/chem1/wiki.cgi?Oxidation_Reduction_Reactions_(Redox_Rxn) 1st Year Oxidation Number and Redox Reaction Information] **[http://tmcleod.org/cgi-bin/chem1/wiki.cgi?Limiting_Reactant_Problems 1st Year Limiting Reactant Problem] **[http://tmcleod.org/cgi-bin/chem1/wiki.cgi?PercentYield 1st Year Percent Yield]
*Pre-lab Question/problem (must be finished before start lab).
*Solid Aluminum will spontaneously react with Zinc nitrate. You react 2.30g Al with 28.06g Zinc nitrate, After the reaction, you dried the filterant (the elemental product) and it massed out at 62.00g. To make your live easier, we will assume that the metal nitrate are not hydrates (which they both are). Answer the following: **Using all appropriate work, determine the balanced chemical reaction and net ionic reactions. **Determine oxidation numbers and all work to determine what species is oxidizer, reduced and oxidizing agent and reducing agent. **Show all work to balance the Redox reaction, and then compare it to your balanced chemical reaction above. Do they correlate? **Show all work to determine the limiting reactant, how much of excess reactant is leftover after the reaction, and how much each product made. **Calculate the percent yield (Simple Redox reaction to produce solid metals including Percent yield) **Oxidation Number **Oxidation - Reduction reaction stating what is oxidized, reduced, oxidizing & reducing agent **Net ionic reactions **Percent Yield
