General Understanding of When Atoms Come Together 
 
1) Be able to identify an element as metal, non-metal or semi-metals from its location on the Periodic Table. 
2) Using the difference of Electronegativity (&#916;EN) between two atoms, be able to determine if there is a covalent bond or ionic bond including memorization the cut-off (&#916;EN). Be able to explain why these bonds exists between the two atoms especially with respect to movement of their valence electrons. 
 
 
Covalent Bonding - General Information 
(Note: look at Basic Covalent Bonding LDS Notes and HW) 
 
3) Name the 3 parts of the Localized Electron Theory (chemical bonding model we use) and be able to explain what each part does. 
 
4) Be able to name three different types of bonds and which one is a "true chemical bond". 
 
5) Be able to name the two different species that have covalent bonding. 
 
 
Lewis Dot Structures (LDS) - Covalent Bonding Species 
 
6) Determine the Lewis Dot Structure (LDS) for covalent bonding species (e.g. molecular cpds and polyatomic ions). This includes 1)total number of valence electrons, 2)number and types of bonds and 3)number of lone pairs on central atom. 
 
7)Be able determine when there is Resonance structures and how to draw them. 
 
8) Be able to know which elements can exceed the Rule of Eight and be able to draw their LDS. 
 
 
Bond Length and Bond Energy 
 
9) Need to be able to determine which of three type of bonds (single, double and triple bond) has the longest/shortest bond length and/or bond energy and reason why. 
 
 
Molecular Geometry and Hybridization

10) From the Lewis Dot Structure, give the geometry (and bond angle) and hybridization of covalent bonding species. 
 
11) Be able to explain what a hybridized orbitals is, how many there are and what type is on the central atom only.

Chemical <nowiki>Naming/Formula</nowiki> Writing for Compounds 
 
12) Be able to determine from a chemical name if this compound is a Molecular compound (MC), Ionic compound (IC) or an Acid (A) and determine its correct chemical formula. 
 
13) Be able to determine from a chemical formula if this compound is a Molecular compound (MC), Ionic compound (IC) or an Acid (A) and determine its correct chemical name. 
 
 
Molarity Calculations 
 
14) Be able to calculate Molarity problems specially how many grams of a solute with a known solution volume and Molarity.
