Objectives of Introductory and Fundamental Principles (Revised 2024-2025)

Essential Question (EQ1): Are there any basic skills/theory?

The student should be able to:

1. State/define Kinetic Molecular Theory (KMT).

2. Define and name the two types of possible interactions/collisions that particles have.

3. Define and differentiate between Intermolecular Forces (IMF) and Intramolecular forces and which interaction/collide they are the majority affect from.

4. Define the Conservation of Matter and how it relates to the Kinetic Molecular Theory (KMT).

5. Define the Conservation of Energy and how it relates to the Kinetic Molecular Theory (KMT).

6. State/define temperature and understand it is not the same as energy including there is no such "thing" as cold.

7. Be able to explain how energy flows from one particle to another and the conditions for this transfer.

8. Be able to state that all particles have two "thing" (i.e. matter and energy).

9. Be able to explain the two difference interaction of Coloumb's Law name and which pair of particles are used.

10a. Be able to state the three types of Particles (I also call them base units).

10b. Be able to indicate what is happening to the electrons between the atoms that are acting as one grouping (i.e. a grouping or particle).

10c. Be able to name the particle, name the compound name and name of the "bond".

Words to know verbatim (i.e. word for word)
a) Kinetic Molecular Theory (KMT)
b) Temperature
