Questions for Chemical Formula Lab (Lab for Chemical Formula and Hydrate)

Water of Hydrate and Percent Hydrate
1. If you did not "drive off" all the water in the hydrate, how would that change the "x" of the hydrate, why?

2. Can you get a water of hydrate that is not whole numbers? What Law would you be dealing with?

3. What observation did you make of the solid from the hydrate form to the anhydrous form?

4. Give a practical use for this solid?

Empirical Formula
1. To determine the subscripts for the chemical reactions, which metal was the limiting reactant and how do you know it from the lab observations?

2. If you did not scrap off all the copper from the Aluminum, how would that change the empirical formula?

3. When you are filtering the copper, the filtrate is left in the flask. Can you add anything to this filtrate to help you understand the chemical reaction (doing the lab).

4. If you weighed the copper incorrectly so that the value you wrote down is lower than the actual value, how does that change the chemical formula?
