<b><u>MATERIALS NEEDED TO PROPERLY USE A TEST TUBE</b></u><br><br>-Test Tube Rack: Never leave a test tube on a counter. Always obtain a test tube rack before moving test tubes to your lab station.<br>-Test Tube Holder: This instrument is only necesary when heating a test tube. Never touch a hot test tube. Always use test tube holders. <br>-Glass Stirrer: Use a small glass stirrer to mix solutions in test tubes and always wash the stirrer before and after using it.<br> -Never carry more than one test tube in each hand! <br> -Never use stoppers! <br><br><b><u>MASSING A TEST TUBE</b></u><br><br> -Before making initial measurements, wash out test tube using DI water and dry out completely. <br> -Place the test tube in the notch of the tray on the balance to make sure it does not move and elevate the top of the test tube.<br><br><b><u>HEATING WITH A TEST TUBE</b></u><br><br> -When heating a solution or liquid, always use a hotwater bath unless otherwise instructed. <br> -When heating a solid, use a Bunsen Burner.<br> -To use hot water bath, place a large beaker of water either on a hot plate or over a Bunsen Burner.<br> -Insert test tube in hot water bath with test tube holders attached.<br> -To heat over a Bunsen Burner, hold the test tube over the flame using the test tube holders until the substance is dry.<br><br><b><u>PUTTING SOLUTIONS IN A TEST TUBE</u></b><br><br> -Unless otherwise directed, measure and pour the solution in a graduated cylinder.<br> -To mix solutions, stir using a small glass stirrer or swirl the liquid within the test tube.<br><br> -If a test tube breaks, inform your teacher and place it in the prper recepticle. <br><br> -When finished, clean test tube and hand on test tube rack.<br><br><br>WorkSheet<br><br>CMDMX
