Group 1 and 2 Lab Test

Part I Fill in the blank(s) with the most appropriate answer.

1. In the Precipitation lab, you produced a silver precipitate. Answer the following about that precipitate:

Chemical name:___________________, Chemical formula: _______________, Color: __________

2. In the Reacting Iron with Copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate Lab, what lab procedure/step did you need to perform to dissolve the copper (II) sulfate hydrate that you did not have to do when you have dealt with copper (II) chloride dihydrate in the past.

3. In the Chemical formula (or Chemical formula & Hydrate) Lab, what observation did you make of the solid from the hydrate form to the anhydrous form? (Hint: Question should sound familiar)

4. What are looking to determine from a base solution if you are "standardizing" that solution?

5. In the Redox reaction Lab, If I added a piece of Cu, Zn and Mg into a solution of lead (II) nitrate (one container of the nitrate for each metal), which metal with react (as per your lab results)? Write the ones that react on the space below.

Part II Answer the following question showing all work and/or providing a clear and concise answer.

1) In the Reacting Iron with Copper (II) sulfate pentahydrate lab, what observation(s) would indicate that the iron is the limiting reactant (can't say just lose of all iron b/c you can't tell since you are producing a solid product also).

2) In the space below, write out including all work, the complete balanced chemical reaction (including phase) and net ionic reaction for one of the reactions that occurred in the Precipitate lab. Please make sure to show all the work to get to the net ionic reaction.

3) If you did not scrap off all the copper from the Aluminum, how would that change the empirical formula? Justify your answer with an explanation of the calculations.

4) If you were an associate of Walter (from Breaking Bad) and wanted to know if his LSD (he is branching out to other chemicals in his business) is actually LSD (a monoprotic acid) , what lab have you done that will provide this information. Please explain the lab procedure to determine your answer. Answer should be in outline form.

5) If the Federal shutdown and thereby the closure of the National Parks continue a length of time, certain metal structure will start being affected. What national monument (that is metal based) would you be most worried about and what would could you do to limit the damage to that monument. (of your answer relates to the labs you have done to date). Please write the material you would use and the reason why you would use them and the lab procedure to perform the work.
