Redox Reaction Homework
For the following chemical reaction, do the following:
- Show all the oxidation of each "atom" above it.
- Make the appropriate brackets with Reactant oxidation number ---> product oxidation number, then "lose or gain e- and (actual number and the ( ) showing # of electron lost/gain to whole substance for balancing purposes)
- Make sure that one bracket is above chemical equation and another below
- Then write down (as described in notes) what is oxidized, reduced, oxidizing agent, reducing agent.
- If no oxidation numbers are changing from reactant to product, write NOT REDOX RXN (but must show oxidization numbers)
- Balance the chemical reaction (show the initial coefficient for electron to balance and then cross out if need more reactant to balance atoms
1. Fe2O3(s) + C(s) ---> Fe(s) + CO2(g) [C - elemental carbon)]
2. H2(g) + Cu1O1(s) ---> Cu(s) + H2O1(g)
