2022 Common Household Ingredient Investigation For 3 Different Types Of Compounds

ChemistryWiki | RecentChanges | Preferences

In this investigation/project, you are going to "look up" common household ingredient lists to find evidence (chemical name) of the three different types of compounds (i.e. Molecular compound (MC), Ionic compound (IC), and an Acid (A).

Main objective:
a) Students are able to recognize the differs between the different types of compounds (cpd) only having the chemical name.
b) The student will be able to give the correct chemical formula for these chemical name ingredients.
c) The student will be able to determine the Lewis Dot Structure (LDS) of each compound. (Will be completed in the second submission)
the
Due Date: Will be announced in class

YOU WILL BE ABLE TO USE INTERNET TO FIND OUT CHEMICAL FORMULA (FROM CHEMICAL NAME (UNLESS IT "FITS INTO" OUR LDS RULES

Deliverables: Will be done ALL off-line including submission   (For 2022, Friday May 6)

1) Find a household item that has IC as one of its ingredient list. Explain how you determined that the chosen ingredient is that type of compounds)
2) Write down or create a page so that you can place the page onto a "regular" 8.5" X 11' sheet of paper.
3) Use your knowledge of chemical name writing to determine which of 3 types of compounds this ingredient is.
4) Use your knowledge of chemical name writing/formula to create the chemical formula for this ingredient.
5) LEAVE SPACE IN for the LDS for this ingredient. (YOU MAY NEED TO USE INTERNET.)
6) Whole project will be submitted as one "regular" size paper.
7) There will be sections (one for each of the 3 types of compounds (cpd).
8) This project will be completed ALL ON PAPER including submission.
