Answer To HW From Chadwick To Planck

1. Goldstein

2. Chadwick

3. Need to have drawn picture and do explanation
a. 8 of 9 particles deflects 0-5 degree (particles go straight thru) means that "particles" volume is small compared to volume of an atoms. Thereby, rest of atom is mostly empty space.
b. Greater than 105 degree deflection indicates that the small volume "particle" is very massive (most all mass of atom)
c. All angles of deflection between 0 and 105 indicate that the small volume mass "thing" is positively charged

Need to draw picture.
Rutherford's Shortcoming: Electron's revolve (orbit in a defined distance) around the nucleus like planets around the sun

4. energy of electron = distance the electron is away from nucleus
atom is at the ground state (all electron in the lowest energy available). Atom absorb a specific amount of energy that allows the electron to absorb this energy ad it will jump to a higher energy level (atom is now in excited state). Instantaneously, the electron fall back down to the original lower energy level (atom is back in the ground state) releasing (called emitted) the exact amount of energy that was originally absorbed.
The part of Bohr's theory that is incorrect is that electrons do not revolve around the nucleus like planets around the sun (specific orbit).

5. E is inversely proportion to lambda (wavelength), E is directly proportion with frequency (f), wavelength (lambda) is inversely proportion to frequency (f)
Light equation: c = (lambda)(f), c = 3.00E8 m*Hz; Energy equation: E = (h)(f), h = 6.60E-34J/Hz
