Part I
1) Heat = energy whereas Temperature is average Kinetic Energy (KE) of all particles in a substance.
2) Eac - minimum amount of energy for a set of reactants to form a set of products.
3) Greater
4) Temperature (T)
5) a. Energy flows from the higher T body to the lower T body until the bodies have the same T and b) when heat flows a portion of the energy does not make it to the receiving body
6) there is no energy. 0K and perfect crystal
7) randomness (or disorder)
8) releasing
9) Reaction that proceeds without outside intervention (the surrounding did not give energy to the system) and deltaG, Gibbs Free Energy
10) a) all the reactant have rearranged into products or b) Gibbs Free Energy difference between reactants and products have gone to zero (meaning no difference)
11) deltaG = Enthalpy (deltaH) and Entropy (deltaS). deltaH is energy that keeps atom/ions grouped together and phase substance is in, deltaS is energy of randomness in system
12) Will discuss in class
13) Since entropy or disorder requires energy, you can't have disorder at absolute zero so you need a substance with all the same material (i.e. atoms).
14a) It is determined by the basis of the scale. Absolute scales has an absolute basis (meaning conditions don't change in the universe (absolute zero) whereas Relative scales have basis that can change in universe (BP of water).
14b) Will discuss in class.
14c) See Question 11 above.

Part II
15) 68gals 16) 18.4kcals 17) 110g or 1.1E2g 18) 0.19cal/(g-degC) 19) 1.42E3g 20) 43degC 21) 34.5degC
