The following is the answers to CP Homework for Atomic Theory thru Dalton:

1. The smallest particle that retains its own identity/properties/characteristics.

2. Discovery of the element oxygen ( O2, how it is found in nature).

3. The Law of Conservation of Mass

4. Robert Boyle

5. George Stahl

6a. Joseph Proust

6b. Definition of the compound.

7. When you want to know about matter, it is about atoms.

8a. Atoms are indivisible (they can't not be divided or break up)
8b. Atoms of the same elements are the same INCLUDING MASS.
8c. Atoms of different elements are different including mass.
8d. Compounds are when atoms group together in simple whole number ratio.

9. 8a is wrong since we know there are subatomic particles (protons, etc). BUT it is still the smallest particles that retain their own identity/property/characteristics
8b is wrong since we know that isotopes exist (atoms of the same element but different masses caused by different number of neutrons).
8c is right for us. Atoms of one element CAN NOT become atoms of other elements.
8d is still correct.

10. Law of Conservation of Mass -
a. Mass is conserved
b. Total number of atoms is conserved (Dalton says)
c. Total number of each type of atoms is conserved (Dalton says).
