Previous to this class
The student took a test on Objectives of Molecular Cpd and Mole Concept - Revised 2009. This section dealt with the 1st part of the whole discussion of how atoms come together to form compounds (cpd) and how chemist are able to count atoms (or groups of atom called cpd) even though can be so small that we can not weigh them individually (this concept is called the Mole Concept). The test assessed their knowledge of what I call One Step Mole problems and one of the two types of compounds called Molecular cpds. Atoms that make up Molecular cpds share their electrons.

Before I gave the test, I introduced what I call Two Step Mole problems. Basically, these problem are the same as One Step Problem except there are two One Step Problem in each Two Step Problem. We went over it before the test but it is a concept they will be tested on in this coming assessment. Usually I don't do this but I felt that if they could do Two Step Problems then it would make the One Step problems on the test trivial. I gave them 1/2 of a period to work on them and I was available to answer their questions. It is now due the period you will be observing.

The other thing that has been going on in the class before this period that you need to know about is that the students have been memorizing ions. Ions are charged atoms meaning the atom has lost or gained some electrons. They have memorized and been quizzed on Charge of Ions from Periodic Table and Cations with More than One Charge. They are working on memorizing their last portion of ions, Anion Table - Revised 2009-2010. All the memorizing has been done for now, the new section on ionic cpd.

What will happen next
FYI, there is actually only one way of naming ionic cpds but I break it up into 3 section because it seems the students understand it better that way. I re-enphasize this at the end of the section.
