Graphing

A scientist heated a container of a liquid. She recorded the temperature (in degree C) of the liquid every 0.5 seconds. Her data is listed below.

Time(sec) , Temperature (degC)
0.5,27.0
1.0,34.6
1.5,43.2
2.0,58.0
2.5,69.4
3.0,75.0
3.5,83.2
4.0,90.5

Tasks

1. Obtain graph paper, pencil & ruler
2. Graph Time (x-axis) vs. Temperature (y-axis)
3. Make sure to:

To determine a "best fit" line:
1. Draw a line (lightly)
2. Determine the distance from the line to each point below the line.
3. Sum all the distance to get the total distance of all points below the line.
4. Do the same for all the points above the line.
5. The two total distances should be almost the same.
6. If not, repeat above process until it does.
7. You do not actually measure but just determine by "eye"
8. The line does not have to go through any data points to be correct.
