Group Salt Project

From your knowledge of chemistry, some ions that make up salts affect the pH of a solution (for example, water).

Objectives:You will use your knowledge of chemistry and also other sources (from Internet which you will need to cite) to learn about a given salt.

Product: A Google sheets document

Lab portion of project:
1. Get a 100 mL beaker and add about 50.mL of DI water.

2. Using a pH probe, determine the pH of DI water.

3. Calculate how much of your desired salt to make a 0.10M solution. Remember: If the salt is a hydrate, need to include mass of the waters of hydrate.

4. Mass out this amount of the salt and add to the solution.

5. Stir until all salt dissolves and record the pH of the new solution.

Project portion:
The following needs to be included in your Google slides document:

a. Salt name and chemical formula
b. Is found in nature? If yes, give name and chemical formula (including waters of hydrate). If not, how do they make it.
c. Company that makes the most of it in the world. How much is produced in a year (either the specific company or overall)
d. Salt's physical and chemical properties include solubility in water, density, melting point, etc)
e. Main use of the chemical. Include at least one uses that require you to write a chemical reaction.
f. Company that uses the most of the salt in the world. How much is produced in a year (either the specific company or overall).
g. Two additional "fun" or interesting facts about this salt.
