Hints on Determining Type of Bonding (shared pair of electron) in Lew Dot Structure

1. After determining the total number of electrons to put into Lewis Dot Structure, guess single bonds (one shaired pair of electrons) between each atom/element. Then fill in rest of electrons to follow Rule of Eight (Octet Rule) or exceptions as required.

2. Three conditions could occur at this point:

a. Number of electron in Lewis Dot Structure = number of available electrons, (right number of electrons) correct structure (unless need to consider formal charge).

b. Number of electrons in Lewis Dot Structure > number of available electron (not enough electrons), NEED TO SHARE MORE, NEED MULTIPLE BONDS

c. Number of electrons in Lewis Dot Structure < number of available electron (too many electrons), DUMP ALL EXTRA ELECTRONS ON CENTRAL ATOM
