Questions For 1st Year Strong Acid Strong Base Titration Lab

ChemistryWiki | RecentChanges | Preferences

Answer the following questions using a clear concise manner and/or showing all appropriate work.

1. Since the acid, base and the products of your titration lab all were colorless solution, how did you determine when to stop adding (called titrated by) base into the acid solution. Explain.

2a. Write the balanced complete chemical reaction (including phases) if you titrated known molarity phosphoric acid with a unknown barium hydroxide solution.

2b. Show the work to determine the net ionic reaction.

3. What would the molarity of the barium hydroxide be if you added 25.7mL of this solution to completely neutralize 0.451L of a 0.075M phosphoric acid solution? Show work on separate sheet of paper. In the space below, state the incorrect assumption you made so that you could use stoichiometry to answer this question.

4. If while I was titrating a known molarity acid with an unknown molarity base, some of the base did not get into the acid solution (e.g. got on the outside of the Erlenmeyer flask), how would change the calculated Molarity of the base? Explain below.

5. The buret is the 2nd most accurate volumetric measuring device in 1st chemistry lab. What is the most accurate volumetric measuring device_____________________. Would this device also be used in a gravimetric analysis or is it only "good" for volumetric analysis? Explain.
