- Formation of Earth timeline
- worksheet with different significant events listed by time & a distance scale
- Did the relative distance between events in corridor
- Could be good idea for timeline of significant events in history of atom (use schoolyear)
- Could be good for understanding the value of the mole (6.02E23)
- Another good book is A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson
- Went over children books we wrote about
- Make way for duckling
- I did How much is Million (billion), use in dimensional analysis & understand value of mole lesson
- Physic (by Dan Green) simple explanation of many physic concepts (also has one for Periodic Table), Cartoon Chemistry (also a good book for simple explanation of concepts
- Story of Salt , is as says, Modern Marvels has show on Salt (could get it from Netflix)
- Candle in a tin pan, use to explanation observation, conservation of mass, chemical change
- Projects
- Timed marble on ramp contest (given set # straws, paper & tape) actually did contest in groups, hits momentum and design/eng concepts
- Light bulbs (physics), good explanation of resistance using straws, longer straw harder to blow more resistance (resistance additive in series), but blow in each straw same time, no added resistance so parallel is not additive (Physic by osborne explains simple)
- Mole Olympics, takes five days, would like to do it in class, (get in group as nations, make nation info, practice with common problems, then events, each student do one event for competition (all nation at same time), award medals and then have party.
- Have student be meterologist(weatherman) each day. do by student at smartboard with weather site on board and then videocam on person so student can see themselve.
- From one conversation, BSC will have a Physics course on Modeling Electricity next spring. Look to take it since I am very bad with understanding of electric stuff.
- Thermo
- Did two black squares, one felt cooler to touch but it melted the ice faster (is made of Al, good heat transfer and other high density foam, not good heat transfer), get them at teacherresources.com
- Was going to do making ice cream but talked about it already in class and let people go earlier
- Everybody thought it was a great course
