Limiting Reactant (Not on Update Jan 2006 MCAS Frameworks)
Essential Question: Do you believe that? (theory explains observations)
Unduring Understanding: Do you have enough slices of bread for your sandwiches.
Each student will be able to:
- Determine if a problem is a limiting reactant problem or not.[(5.5)]
- Determine/calculate which reactant is limiting (and therefore other is in excess).[(5.5)]
- Determine the amount of product(s) produced in the rxn .[(5.5)]
- Determine the amount of excess reactant material .[(5.5)]
- Determine the actual yield, theoretical yield, and percent yield of product(s).[(5.6)]
Redox (Oxidation-Reduction) Reactions
Essential Question: Follow the bouncing electron(s) to show who is doing work. (LEOthe lion goes GER)
Each student will be able to:
- Determine the oxidation number of all species in elements & cpds [(11.1 & 11.2)](8.4)
- Determine if a chemical reaction is a Redox reaction or not[(11.1 & 11.2)](8.4)
- Using appropriate drawings and explanation, determine which reactant species will be oxidized & reduced [(11.1 & 11.2)](8.4)
- Using appropriate drawings and explanation, determine which reactants (whole species) will be the reducing agent & oxidizing agent. [(11.1 & 11.2)](8.4)
- Balancing Redox reaction by Oxidation Number [11.3]
NOT ON UPDATED JAN 2006 MCAS FRAMEWORKS - WILL NOT REQUIRE STUDENTS TO KNOW HOW TO BALANCE REDOX REACTIONS
