Answers the following questions concerning the notes for IMF and certain physical properties. These questions include both differentiate of IMF strength between major particle groups and further differentiate of IMF strength within series of Hydrogen bonding polar molecules or of and London Dispersion forces of non-polar molecules.

1) What is the name of the Intermolecular Force (IMF) between non-polar molecules?_______

2) What is the name of dissolving if you have a liquid solute dissolving in a liquid solvent? ___________

4) A particle that is now in the gas phase but at room temperature it is a liquid is called ______________

7) Which one of the three phases of matter is when there is enough energy so that the particles can completely overcome its IMF?

8) What is the phrase you need to memorize to know if two substance will dissolve in each other? What does it with respect to what you know about the particles involved.

9) Can carbon monoxide dissolve in methane (C1H4)? Explain why.

10) Can you dissolve a solute into a solvent indefinitely (e.g. forever)? Explain

11) What is the phrase you need to memorize concerning the answer from Q10 above?

5) When a substance goes from its solid phase into its liquid phase, the strength of its IMF changes. Yes or No. If it is No, then what is different?

6) Which one of the following has the highest IMF and why (explain in space below), H2O , CH3CH2OH (in this substance the 3 H and 1 O is bonding to the C atom) , or NH3.

2) List the species/particles (e.g. ionic compound, non-polar molecules, polar molecule, metals) from highest IMF to lowest IMF. Note: Some species may be equal to each other so put them together in your list.

12) Crude oil is a mixtures of compounds. Two of these compounds are hexane (C6H14) and octane (C8H18). Which one has the higher IMF and why? Which one boils first (lower Boiling point/temperature)?
