The learner will be able to:

1) Be able to define the following Vocabulary:

2) Know the Modern Periodic Law and how it relates to the Periodic Table (including going down a Group/family).

3) Know the difference between Mendeleev’s Periodic Table and the Modern Periodic Table.

4) Be able to write electron configurations for 1st 20 elements on Periodic Table.

5) Be able to figure out the number of valence electrons for any atom based on its location on the periodic table

6) Be able to locate and name special groups on the periodic table (alkali metals, halogens, etc.)

7) Be able to describe and explain trends (down a group and across, L to R, a Period) on the Periodic Table for: Coulombic force (CF), atomic radii/size (AR), Ionization energy (IE) and Electronegativity (EN).

8) Be able to explain why atoms form bonds (and why noble gases don’t!)

9) Be able to explain the difference between ionic bonds, covalent bonds and metallic bonds with respect to what happens to valence electrons.
