Name and give the chemical formula of acids. In addition, be able to determine if a given chemical name/formula is an acid compared to an ionic or molecular compound (other than an acid).

2. Be able to determine if a substance (i.e. from a chemical name or chemical formula) is a strong electrolyte, weak electrolyte, non-electrolyte include strong/weak acid and/or base.

3. Be able to state a characteristic of an acid and a characteristic of a base (other than changing pH indicator colors).

4. Be able to determine if a substance is a strong or weak acid or base form either its chemical name and/or chemical formula.

5. Define Arrhenius' theory of acids and bases in terms of the presence of hydronium and hydroxide ions.

6. Relate hydronium ion and hydroxide concentrations to the pH scale and to acidic, basic, and neutral solutions. Be able to calculate pH problems (or pOH problems).
7. Using your understanding of weak and strong acid/bases, be able to compare and contrast the strengths of various acids and bases (e.g. common acid/bases like vinegar, baking soda, orange juice). Specifically strong vs weak not different types of weak acid/base.
8. Understand what a Neutralization reaction (acid base reaction) is and be able to use it (including balancing it) in solving Neutralization problems.

9. Explain how what a pH indicators and what it does.

<strike>10. Be able to state the three different definitions of an acid and a base.</strike>
