<center><b>Objectives of Molecular Cpd and One Step Mole</b></center><br> <b>Essential Questions (EQ2): Are there any basic particles?</b> <br> The student should be able to:(bolded number are MA Framework Standard numbers)<br> <center><b><nowiki>DO NOT HAVE TO MEMORIZE ANY POLYATOMIC IONS FOR TEST</nowiki></b><br></center> 1. Explain the difference between molecular compounds and ionic compounds (cpd) with respect to how valence electrons interact, bonding type, basic unit, name of chemical formula, and types of atoms (<nowiki>deltaEN</nowiki>) that make up each type of cpd.<b>[http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/scitech/2001/standards/chem10_114.html 4.1](4.1)</b>. Also, be able to explain metallic bond and what it is composed of.<br> <br> 2. Understand the meaning of the subscript in the chemical formula of an ionic cpd and molecular cpd.<b>[http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/scitech/2001/standards/chem10_114.html 4.6]</b><br> <br> 3. <b>Memorize the seven (7) diatomic elements (H2,N2,O2,F2,Cl2,Br2, and I2).</b><br> 4. Write the chemical name from the chemical formula of a molecular cpd (called molecular formula) and visa versa. <b>You will need to memorize the Prefix Table in Naming Molecular Compound handout.</b><b>[http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/scitech/2001/standards/chem10_114.html 4.6,4.7](4.6)</b><br> 5. Write Lewis Dot Structures for Elements and all species that contain covalent bonds (molecular cpds or polyatomic ions). <b>You will need to memorize the Rule of Eight or Octet Rule.</b> This includes resonance structures and exceeding the Rule of Eight conditions.<b>[http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/scitech/2001/standards/chem10_114.html 4.2](4.2)</b><br> 6. Calculate Percent Composition problems. <b>( NOT for 2019-2020 Honors student)</b><br> 7. Correctly set-up and calculate One Step Mole Calculation Problems (mass,#particle, volume) using the class rule for showing work including molar mass calculation (for cpds) and the sig fig rules.<b>[http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/scitech/2001/standards/chem10_115.html 5.3,5.4,5.5](5.3)</b> <b>(Not for 2019-2020 Honors students)</b><br> <br> 8. Correctly set-up and calculate One Step or Two Step Mole Calculation Problems using the Mole Wheel in your folder including molar mass calculation and the sig fig rules.<b>[http://www.doe.mass.edu/frameworks/scitech/2001/standards/chem10_115.html 5.3,5.4](5.3)</b><b>( 2019-2020 Honors student NEED TO Know)</b><br><br> <br> 9.Understand how to calculate the number of mole of a solute in a solution and visa versa (called Molarity calculations). Also Molarity calculations make another "spoke" on the Mole Wheel. <b>( 2019-2020 Honors student NEED TO Know)</b> <br> 10. Need to be able to determine which of three type of bonds (single, double and triple bond) has the longest/shortest bond length and/or bond energy and reason why.<b>( 2019-2020 Honors student NEED TO Know)</b><br> <br>
