AP Lab Block (Lab and Reaction Set) Syllabus


This is a separate class that is being dedicated to laboratory experiences and preparation for the reaction set portion of the AP Chemistry exam. As it is only for one semester, there is a maximum of 60 class periods with each period being 68minutes long.

The laboratory portion will consists of performing labs and subsequent calculations/analysis to obtain a conclusion.

c. Determination of mass and mole relationship in a chemical reaction
d. Analytical gravimetric determination

a. Making solution lab
b. Acid-Base reaction
c. Separation and qualitative analysis of cations and anions including making solutions
d. Determination of electrochemical series

Group 3. Everybody goes to the Party and its a Gas: Equilibrium and Gas Laws (Oct/ Nov) Group 3 Lab Info
a. Graham's Law of Diffusion Lab
b. Determination of the molar volume of a gas
c. Determination of molar mass by vapor density
d. Guided Inquiry - Mass -Volume Relationship of a Chemical Reaction Lab
e. Colorimetric or spectrophotometric analysis (lab c & d done together) - Beer's Law
f. Determination of the equilibrium constant for a chemical reaction

Group 4. Neutral or Are We? : Acid-Base Reactions (Nov/ Dec) Group 4 Lab Info

a. Measurements using electrochemical cells and electroplating
b. Determination of concentration by oxidation-reduction titration
c. Determination of enthalpy change associated with a reaction
