The acid ionization constant, Ka for propanoic acd, C2H5COOH is 1.3E-5.

a. Calculate the hydrogen ion concentration in a 0.20M solution of this acid.

b. Calculate the percent of propoanoic acid molecules that are ionized in the solution above.

c. What is the ratio of the concentration of propanoate ion, C2H5COO1-, to that of propanoic acid in a buffer solution with a pH of 5.20?

d. In a 100.ml sample of a different buffer solution, the propanoic acid concentration is 0.35M and the sodium propanoate concentration is 0.50M. To this buffer solution, 0.0040 moles of solid NaOH is added. Caclulate the pH of the resulting solution?

Answers
a. 1.6E-3M
b. 0.81%
c. 2.1/1
