For 2019-2020 Year, Chapter 8 and Chapter 9 (this is one we were finishing before we went to Remote Learning).
- Topic 2.1 Types of Chemical Bonds
- Electronegativity differences between two atoms influence how valence electrons are being dealt with between the two atoms
- Topic 2.2 Intramolecular Forces and Potential Energy
- Especially look at Interatom distance and Potential energy graph to explain bond length when sharing valence electrons (length where less energy location). Fig 8.3 Pg 342
- Topic 2.3 Structures of Ionic Solids
- Need to Coulombic law ( I call it Coulombic force) & Lattice Energy and how it affect bonding and ion properties
- Be able to explain Energy Effects in Binary Ionic Compounds (I believe it use to be called Born-Harber Cycle) Fig 8.11, Pg356
- Topic 2.4 Structure of Metals and Alloys
- Explain how valence electron are being dealt with between atoms ("sea of free flowing valence electrons or "delocalized" electrons)
- Section 10.4 in book but not Bragg Equation
- Topic 2.5 Lewis Dot Structures (LDS)
- Be able to do LDS for various covalent bonded substance (Molecular compound & Polyatomic ions)
- Topic 2.6 Resonance and Formal Charge
- Topic 2.7 VSEPR and Hybridization
