Ionic Compound Making Dice Game

ChemistryWiki | RecentChanges | Preferences

In this "game", you get into groups of two learners. One learner from one group will find two dice, one that is a cation and one that is an anion. After rolling the dice, you write down the symbol and charge of each dice (of course cation is first than anion). Then determine the chemical formula (remember no charges when writing chemical formulas). After that, you name the ionic compound.

So the direction look like:

Direction
1. Find in the IC bag, one dice that is cation and one that is an anion.
2. Roll the dice.
3. Write down the symbol and charge of the cation and then the symbol and charge of anion.
4. Figure out the chemical formula when these ions make an ionic compound.
5. Figure out the name of this ionic compound.
6. Done and repeat.

For today, you will:
1. Get into groups of 6 (so 4 groups usually).
2. Then separate into 3 pairs.
3. Get 3 pieces of the paper (one pair).
4. Now determine the game format (i.e. one group roll dice, write down information above to see if got correct answer. Get points if yes or no, then everybody else get shot).
5. Write format on paper with group name and members.
6. Write down all work on paper for each game.
7. At end of period, collect all papers and staple together and give to teacher/substitute.

Please make sure everybody get to be in a game.
