Lab Quiz A : Types of Chemical Reaction & Determining Empirical Formula Labs

1a. In the Types of Chemical Reaction lab, you heated up (decomposed) copper (II) carbonate. What was the gas (chemical formula)? _____________.

1b. What happened to the match to indicate that it was that gas? _______________________

2a. In the Empirical Formula Lab, what is the phase of the product, ___________________

2b. Actual chemical formula (not what your lab data calculated). ___________________

3. On the back of the page, show your Empirical Formula calculations (you do not need to show any work on how you got the mass of Mg or mass of O2).

4. Also on the back of the page, show the balanced complete (sometime called molecular) chemical reaction and all work to how the net ionic reaction for Step 5 in the Types of Chemical Reaction Lab.

5. In a sentence or two, answer the following question in the space below.
In the Empirical Formula Lab, most all the crucibles looked like they were "dirty". Why could you use the crucible even if there was solid at bottom of the crucible (it is assumed that the crucible has been used in several lab before you used it).
