Lesson Plan for Day 3 (P3 or P4) of 2nd Section Mole Concept and Cpds
NOTE:
Objectives
a) To present the concept of Empirical Formula thru notes and a lab (Part of Objective 4)
b) To continue the concept of Ionic Compound naming. New section of IC, (IC with cations with more than one charge)(Part of Objective 5)
Classroom Assignments/Activities
1) Do Prelab and start lab (unusual, I have set-up lab & preweighed)(Objective a)
- This is a long lab that requires alot of heating and weighing so need max time
- Alot of standing around time so will go back and forth between lab and classroom
2)Check homework, student check answer from board and go over any questions, no assessment for these concepts
- Depending on how long this takes, could have students go back into lab
- I will check homework while students are doing the 1st heating
3)During this time, I will give out handout for New section of IC
- This section is (IC with cations with more than one charge)(Objective b)
- Will not go over, the handout is designed as lecture notes, example and a set of homework assignments
- Again, depending on timing, could stop here and have them back in lab
4)Notes and lecture on Empirical Formula (Objective a)
- Will have notes on board on steps/procedures for doing Empirical formula
- Go over what Empirical formula means and procedures including example
- Notes will be on board unless I have time to make up a new handout
- Again, depending on timing, could stop part way thru and have them back in lab
5)Finish lab and make sure students know homework
Homework
1) Complete Empirical formula homework handout
2) Complete Homework from IC with cations with more than one charge handout
3) Do calculations for lab only (do not formal lab write-up)
