On separate sheet of paper, please show all work in answering the following question.

Determine the mass of _________________ (the solute) you need to add to water to make a _______________ liter solution.

Fill in blanks below from work on other page

_______________ grams of _____________ you need to make a 500.mL solution

You need to pass in your calculations before doing lab

Directions

1. On piece of weighing paper, mass out solute.
2. Add in approximately 1/4 - 1/2 DI water (from teacher) to the Volumetric flask.
3. Using weighing paper as funnel, add in the solid solute (do not loss any solid during transfer)
4. Get magnetic stirrer (and stirring rod) and swirl bottle to dissolve solid.
5. Once all solid is dissolved, add water until you reach desired liquid level on Volumetric flask. ((usually need to use a pipette to get to desired volume).
6. Put on magnetic stirrer again for final stirring.
7. Write out label (using label tape) with:
a. All students initials
b. Period
c. Date
d. State the Molarity of the solution and the chemical formula of the substance.
8. Place tape on 500mL plastic container.
9. Pour your solution into the 500mL container. (there may be some solution that you can't fit in 500.mL solution, so put in sink.)

Question
Determine the volume of the _____________ M (concentrated solution) you need to dilute to get 500mL of _______M (diluted solution). Chemical formula ___________

Answer:

_______________ mL of ______________M (concentrated) _________________ solution (chemical formula).

Directions

1. Get (or clean ) a 500mL Volumetric flask.
2. Get the appropriate volume graduated cylinder to measure out the volume of concentrated solution needed to make the diluted solution.
3. Obtain the correct volume of concentrated solution (usually need to use a pipette to finish transfer).
4. Add about 1/4 - 1/2 DI water into Volumetric flask.
5. Pour concentrated solution into flask (in at least 2 portions). Use magnetic stirrer between portion to mix.
6. Add rest of volume to the 500.mL mark with DI water ((usually need to use a pipette to get to desired volume). Again use magnetic stirrer to mix.
7. Write out label (using label tape) with:
a. All students initials
b. Period
c. Date
d. State the Molarity of the solution and the chemical formula of the substance.
9. Place tape on 500mL plastic container. 10. Pour your solution into the 500mL container. (there may be some solution that you can't fit in 500.mL solution, so put in sink.)
