Notes On Relating Periodic Trends To Coulombic Force

ChemistryWiki | RecentChanges | Preferences

Using the Coulombic Force (CF) Trends you stated in Homework for Coulombic Force Trends, Now need to relate to all 5 Periodic Property Trend

Some chemistry book talk about what is called the Shield Effect (that core electron shield the valence electron from the full positive charge or pull of the nucleus so that explain the trends). However, I think it is easier to use CF as an explanation.

Remember, the Coulombic Force is the attractive force between the nucleus and the valence electron (the reason why the electrons stay near nucleus).
*Higher CF means valence electrons are closer to nucleus and more tightly held to nucleus
