Course Expectation
The student will:
- Complete Homework per the deadline, no late work accepted
- Participate in the course including in classroom discussion, group work and all other aspects of the course
385 Environmental Science (Level 2) Course Description (Level 2) Gr 11,12 Elective (1/2 Year, 2.5Cr)
- Students will identify and research environmental issues and practice scientific protocols while investigating environmental problems. An emphasis will be placed on students using critical thinking and analytical skills to make a positive impact on the environment.
- Prerequisites: Successful completion of Biology 1 and concurrently taking a chemistry course.
- Learning Expectations: II, IV, V (Tech Competences: 1, 4, 5, 7)
As an overall guide, we will be reading Thomas L Friedman's book; Hot, Flat, and Crowded: Why We Need A Green Revolution - And How It Can Renew America (ISBN -13 978-1-59413-335-0)
Proposed Topics (In no particular order)
- Human Populations and Effect on Earth's Resources
- Environmental Resources and Pollution
- Current Energy Situation
- Future Energy Potential (i.e. Alternative Energy)
Grading / Assessment Types
- For each section, there will be a "traditional" type of assessment (i.e. multiple choice quiz, etc) and a "non-traditional" type of assessment (i.e. written project, oral presentation, podcasting,etc).
