Objectives of Chemical Reactions and Redox Reactions
1)All objectives from Objectives of Chemical Reactions and Stoichiometry - Revised 2008.
2a)Redox (Oxidation-Reduction) Reactions: General Information:
Each student will be able to:
- Determine the oxidation number of all species in elements & cpds [(11.1 & 11.2)](8.4)
- Determine if a chemical reaction is a Redox reaction or not[(11.1 & 11.2)](8.4)
- Using appropriate drawings and explanation, determine which reactant species will be oxidized & reduced [(11.1 & 11.2)](8.4)
- Using appropriate drawings and explanation, determine which reactants (whole species) will be the reducing agent & oxidizing agent. [(11.1 & 11.2)](8.4)
- Balancing Redox Reactions using Oxidation Number Method
2019-2020 Honors Student DO NOT DO
2b)Redox (Oxidation-Reduction) Reactions: Application of Redox Rxn
Each student wil be able to :
- Electrochemical cell - Chemical energy to Electrical energy (i.e.battery)
- Electrolysis/electroplating - Electrical energy to Chemical energy (i.e. plating of jewelry)
- You need a negative ion (an anion) in water to make it electrical conductive (you get electrocuted)
3)Percent Yield
Each student will be able to
- Determine the theoretical (stoichiometical) yield
- Determine the percent yield
4)Limiting Reactant Problems
- You need to know when you need to do this special type of stoichiometry problem
- What the limiting reactant is and that it how you determine the products (starting point for stoichiometry)
- For 2019-2020, you are NOT held responsible to perform limiting reactant problems.
