Objectives of Labskills and Measurement

Essential Question: Do you believe that? (theory explains observations)
Enduring Understanding: I see said the Observer

The student should be able to:

1. Show all work in mathematical problems as stated in class.
2. Differentiate between independent and dependent variable and which axes they are on a graph. Be able to graph data on a x-y graph.
3. Explain all phases of the Scientific Method including theory and law and give an example.
4. Define science and chemistry and understand the difference between pure and applied scientists.
5. Know the name, location and use of the safety equipment in the room.
6. Know the safety information from the Safety video.
7. Memorize all the metric conversion stated in class.
8. Explain the difference from qualitatitve and quantatative observations.
9. Explain the difference between accuracy and precision.
10. Explain the signficance of signficant figures (sig figs) and two pieces of information every quantatitive observation provides.
11. Determine the number of sig figs for any measure (the person is making the measurement)
12. Determine the sig fig from a quantatitive observation someone else determined (you are looking at someone else's data)
13. Calculate both add/subtract and/or multiply/divide of sig figs.
14. Use scientific notation in calculations.
15. Use dimensional analysis appropriate to solve problems including showing all work; units canceling, number before you round in correct scientific notation and two more sig fig than in answer, and answer in proper form (sig fig & scientific notation if needed).
