Covalent Bonding - General Information

1) Name the 3 parts of the Localized Electron Theory (chemical bonding model we use) and be able to explain what each part does.

2) Be able to name three different types of bonds and which one is a "true chemical bond".

3) Be able to determine if two atoms coming together would share ve- (form covalent bond) by knowing the ΔEN (Electronegativity difference).(Honors Chem328 students only)

4) Be able to name the two different species that have covalent bonding.

Covalent Bonding - Lewis Dot Structures (LDS)

1) Determine the Lewis Dot Structure (LDS) for covalent bonding species (e.g. molecular cpds and polyatomic ions). This includes 1)total number of valence electrons, 2)number and types of bonds and 3)number of lone pairs on central atom.

2021-2022 Objectives of Chemical Bonding

General Understanding of When Atoms Come Together

1) Be able to identify an element as metal, non-metal or semi-metals from its location on the Periodic Table.

Be able to explain why these bonds exists between the two atoms especially with respect to movement of their valence electrons.
