For Chemical Naming and Mole Concept

Each student will be able to:

  1. Differentiate between molecular and ionic compounds (cpd) on the basis of:
    1. material that composes the cpd
    2. bonding (including how valence electrons are interacting)
    3. the name for the chemical formula of each type
    4. the name of the smallest unit of the cpd

  1. Naming Cpd
    1. Using only the chemical name, how you differentiate between the different types of cpds
    2. Using only the chemical formula, how you differentiate between the different types of cpds
    3. Determine the chemical formula from the chemical name for ionic cpds and molecular cpds.
    4. Determine the chemical name from the chemical formula for ionic cpds and molecular cpds.

  1. Mole Calcuations
    1. Calculate the molar mass of ionic and molecular cpds
    2. Understand how to use the MOLE WHEEL (in your folder)
    3. Be able to use three Mole Equation. Calculate the moles from knowledge of the grams, # of particles, and volume (of a gas @STP)of elements, ionic cpds, or molecular cpds AND VISA VERSA I call them One Step Problems
    4. Calculate any grams, number of particles or volume (of a gas @STP) from any of the other information I call them Two Step Problems
